The PADI Freediver course is your first step into this fascinating sport. You will learn ancient breath-holding techniques combined with modern physiology to unlock your body’s potential. Whether you want to explore reefs without heavy equipment or simply challenge yourself mentally, this course will change the way you see the ocean.

What you’ll learn

This course is divided into knowledge development, confined water (pool) sessions, and open water sessions. You will master:

  • Freediving Physiology: How your body reacts to breath-holding
  • Static Apnea: Holding your breath while floating face down (Goal: 90 seconds)
  • Dynamic Apnea: Swimming underwater horizontally on one breath (Goal: 25 meters)
  • Constant Weight: Diving down vertically using fins (Goal: 10 meters)
  • Safety & Rescue: Proper buddy procedures for freediving

Course Prerequisites

Pulling yourself down the line to warm up ears
Ducking and finning down to depth (Constant Weight)

By the end of the course, you will be surprised! Most students can easily hold their breath for over **1 minute 30 seconds** and dive to **10 meters** comfortably. It is more about technique and relaxation than physical strength.

Like any water sport, there are risks, but the PADI Freediver course teaches you how to manage them. The #1 rule in freediving is “Never Dive Alone.” You will learn rescue skills to ensure you and your buddy are always safe.

Absolutely! In fact, scuba divers often make great freedivers because they are already comfortable in the water. Learning to freedive will actually improve your scuba air consumption because you learn to breathe more efficiently and relax more deeply.

Freediving equipment is different from scuba gear. We use low-volume masks, long fins, and snorkels. We provide all the necessary equipment for the course, so you don’t need to buy anything beforehand.

The maximum depth for the PADI Freediver course is **16 meters (53 feet)**. However, you only need to reach **10 meters (30 feet)** to pass the course certification.
