Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

No! The Advanced Open Water Diver course focuses on practical diving skills. There is no final exam. You simply need to complete the *Knowledge Reviews* for each of your 5 Adventure Dives (either via PADI eLearning or a course manual) and discuss them with your instructor before the dive.

Upon completing the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course, you will be certified to dive to a maximum depth of *30 meters (100 feet)*. This opens up many more dive sites around the world, including deeper shipwrecks and walls that are inaccessible to Open Water divers (who are limited to 18m).

Common misconception! You do *not* need to be “advanced” to take this course. It is designed to be taken *immediately* after your Open Water certification. The course is about “advancing” your skills under the supervision of an instructor. It is a great way to gain more confidence in the water right after learning to dive.

While Deep and Navigation are mandatory, the other 3 are up to you. We highly recommend *Peak Performance Buoyancy* as it improves your air consumption and positioning. *Night Diver* is thrilling if you want to see nocturnal marine life. *Wreck Diver* or *Drift Diver* are also popular choices depending on the dive location.

The course typically takes *3 to 4 days* to complete the 5 required Adventure Dives. It is a fun, relaxed course with minimal classroom time, as most of the learning happens in the water.
