Description

Course Overview

Achieving a new personal best time or reaching a new depth is an incredible feeling. The PADI Advanced Freediver course is designed to help you fulfill that personal need to refine and improve your freediving skills. The main evolution in this course is learning how to use your body’s negative buoyancy to “Freefall”—gliding effortlessly into the deep without kicking. You will also learn advanced equalization techniques and stretching exercises to prepare your body for depths of up to **24 meters (80 feet)**.

What you’ll learn

This course pushes your physical and mental limits further. You will train to achieve the following performance requirements:

  • Advanced Physiology: Understanding the mammalian dive reflex in depth
  • Static Apnea: Holding your breath for 2 minutes 30 seconds (2:30)
  • Dynamic Apnea: Swimming underwater for 50 meters (165 feet)
  • Constant Weight: Diving to 20 meters (65 feet) minimum
  • The Freefall: Streamlining and relaxation during deep descent

Course Prerequisites

  • 1
PADI Freediver certification (or qualifying certification from another organization)
  • 2

    Minimum age: 15 years old

  • 3

Good physical health (medical questionnaire required)

  • 4

Current EFR (CPR/First Aid) training (recommended but not mandatory for enrollment)

Course Curriculum

Advanced Theory & Static

Goal: Extend your breath hold to 2 minutes 30 seconds.

Stretching & Relaxation

Learn advanced stretching techniques for the thoracic cage (rib cage) and diaphragm to allow deeper breaths and compression at depth.

Advanced Apnea

Push your limits in a controlled environment.
Static Apnea Goal: 2min 30sec
Dynamic Apnea Goal: 50 meters

Open Water Depth Training

Goal: Constant weight diving to 20-24 meters.

Mastering the Freefall

Learn at what depth you become negatively buoyant
Practice stopping your finning and letting gravity take over
Enjoy the silence and relaxation of the glide

Advanced Equalization

Refine your Frenzel equalization technique to reach 20m+ comfortably without straining.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Yes, absolutely. Many students choose to do the “Zero to Hero” freediving package, which combines the Beginner and Advanced courses over 5-6 days. This is highly recommended as it gives you consistent practice and allows you to progress rapidly.

For a scuba diver, 24 meters is a standard recreational depth. For a freediver, it is a significant milestone! At this depth, your lungs compress significantly, and you must rely on advanced equalization and the freefall technique. It is challenging but reachable for most healthy individuals.

No, a monofin (the single large fin that looks like a mermaid tail) is not required for this course. You can complete the Advanced Freediver course using standard freediving bi-fins (long fins). However, if you are interested in trying a monofin, let us know!

Freediving is a mental sport. Sometimes, equalization issues or mental barriers prevent students from reaching the depth goal in 2 days. If you don’t meet the requirements, we can certify you at the level you achieved, or you can book extra training sessions to hit the target.

Yes. While the Valsalva method (pinching nose and blowing) works for shallow depths, it often fails deeper than 10-15 meters. In the Advanced course, we focus on refining the *Frenzel maneuver*, which uses the tongue to pressurize air, allowing for deeper and safer equalization.
